Niklas Krieg shows his worth winning the World Cup in Leipzig
At only 22-year-old, Niklas Krieg took the win in the Longines FEI World Cup qualifier in Leipzig. The German show jumper took a sensational win at his first World Cup start, aboard Carella 5 (by Clearway).

A total of 40 combinations took the start, only fourteen riders managed to produce a clear round over the first round track. The first clears were produced by 19-year-old Jessica Mendoza with Spirit T (by Tornado), Guido Klatte with Qinghai (by Quidan de Revel), followed by Krieg. Also Paul Estermann, Philipp Weishaupt, Bertram Allen, Kevin Staut, Simon Delestre, Harrie Smolders, Denis Lynch, Pius Schwizer, Olivier Philippaerts and Sergio Alvarez Moya left the fences intact.

Jessica was the first on to compete in the jump-off. The young British show jumper took risks that resulted in two poles down. Eventually Krieg showed how it was done. Denis Lynch and All Star 5 produced a clear jump-off as well, finishing in 41.04 seconds, following in a second place. Harrie Smolders and Don VHP Z took no risks, with a clear finish in 46.85 seconds, leaving them on a third place.

Only the top three finished clear. The top five was completed by Belgium's Gregory Wathelet (Eldorado van het Vijverhof) and Olivier Philippaerts (H&M Legend Of Love).
