Great Britain triumphant at European Championships eventing

The European eventing championships in Avenches, Switzerland, were a British affair this year, with gold in the Nations Cup and no fewer than three British riders on the podium! The European title went to the experienced Nicola Wilson. With JL Dublin, she kept her dressage score of 20.9 penalty points throughout the championship.

Never before has an all-female team won European team gold in eventing. The British riders also had their work cut out for them individually today. Gold went to Nicola Wilson and JL Dublin, silver to Piggy March and Brookfield Inocent and bronze to Sarah Bullimore and Corouet. Germany's Ingrid Klimke was on provisional silver after the cross, but with her 17-year-old SAP Hale Bob she made a small mistake in the course and dropped to fifth place. Fellow countryman Michael Jung jumped a clear round and finished fourth with FischerWild Wave. With the German team, however, they won the silver medal. In the Nations Cup bronze went to Sweden.

The best Belgian performance came from Karin Donckers. She rode Leipheimer van't Verahof to 19th place.
