Edwin Smits announced the sale of his GP-horse Farezzo

Swiss rider Edwin Smits announced today that he has had to say goodbye to one of his top horses Farezzo (by Arezzo VDL). Olympic Canadian rider Yann Candele will take over the reins of this gelding.

Farezzo is a twelve-year-old KWPN gelding and performed up to very high level with Edwin Smits in the saddle. In March of this year the duo competed in the CSI3* classes at the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Oliva. There, Smits and Farezzo finished sixth in the 3* 1.50m Grand Prix. The last international appearance of the two was also in Oliva where they finished eighth in the CSI3* 1.45m class. In 2020, the duo won the CSI2* 1.45m Grand Prix in Oliva.

"Proud and blessed that I could be your rider, co-owner and best friend! Thanks Sonia Membrez for believing in us! It has been a very difficult decision to let you go. My sports heart is bleeding. Emotions are making place for reality. We wish you, Farezzo but also Yann Candele, team Canada with captain Eric Lamaze all the best and lots of success. I will miss you! Bye Bye Farezzo", says Edwin Smits on his Facebook page.
