On Nov. 27, Holger Hetzel's 19th International Springpferde Auction took place in Goch, Germany. The absolute highlight of the evening was the sale of Sensationell, a six-year-old grey stallion. The KWPN stallion, a son of Zirocco Blue out of a Cardento dam, was hammered at a record sum of 1 million euros. The new owner? None other than top Irish show jumper Daniel Coyle, known for his achievements with Legacy, the most successful show jumper of the year.

Sensationell did not steal his name: with successes in international Youngster competitions, he has already amply proven his potential. Under Coyle's wings, the stallion is expected to grow into one of the big names in show jumping.

Record prices for other jumpers

Sensationell was not the only horse to receive high prices. The auction offered a selection of 22 young jumpers, several of which fetched impressive sums. The second highest bid of the evening went to seven-year-old Sweet Dream, a daughter of Ireland's Tyson, who changed hands for 760,000 euros. In third place was a Baltic VDL stallion from the Netherlands, who sold for 600,000 euros.

In total, the horses brought an average price of more than 311,000 euros. As many as five horses broke the half-million euro mark.
