Grimaldi wins speed class at CSI5* Mechelen

The first CSI5* class of the day has just been ridden in Mechelen. It was a 1m40 class that was ridden directly against the clock. The victory went to the Italian rider Eugenio Grimaldi. He beat top riders Harrie Smolders and Jos Verlooy.

Grimaldi jumped an amazing round with the 13-year old Scara Mouche (f. Calvaro F.C.). He took all risks and this resulted in a fast, clear round. He eventually finished in 59,39 seconds. With this time he was the only rider who managed to stop the clock before it reached 60 seconds. Harrie Smolders and Corrada (f. Oklund) ended on second place. He saddled the 12-year old KWPN mare to jump to the finish in 60,86 seconds. Jos Verlooy was one second slower. With Jacobien Dwergse Hagen (v. V. Vite) under the saddle, he jumped a clear round in 61,85 seconds.

Thibault Philippaerts took account of the fourth place. He saddled the 10-year old BWP mare Juvente van de Kakebeek (f. Chatman). Gilles Thomas and Calleryama (f. Casall) completed the top five.
