Richard Vogel also left his mark in the 1.60m Turkish Airlines Prize of Europe in Aachen! Earlier today, Vogel had already won the 1.45m five-star event and secured a podium spot in the 1.50m class. In the 1.60m, he stayed ahead of the competition after a jump-off with twelve participants. Vogel, riding Cepano Baloubet, finished over one second ahead of McLain Ward.
McLain followed on stage aboard his 16-year-old Callas (Casall). The American was just one-hundredth of a second faster than Germany's, Jana Wargers and Dorette (Dollar du Murier).
Just outside the top three placed Cian O'Connor in the saddle of his 12-year-old BWP-gelding, Maurice (Thunder v Zuuthoeve). Kendra Claricia Brinkop completed the top five aboard her KWPN-mare, In Time (Biscayo).
Speaking on his victory, the German rider stated: “My horse [Cepano Baloubet] jumped amazingly tonight and he feels in great shape – he was really fighting for me today. The atmosphere was incredible – with the floodlights and all of the spectators, there is no other feeling quite like jumping here. It has been a dream start to the week!”
