The body of a man who fell off a cliff while horseback riding was recovered this morning, according to mysanantonio.com. Jose Cosio, 37, died yesterday evening after reportedly falling over a cliff and into the river below. Cosio was out riding with a 15 year-old girl and her older brother on the ranch where he worked near Helotes, Texas, according to officials. Cosio and the girl (whose name had not been released) were both riding the same horse when the animal slipped and fell, landing in a deep portion of the San Geronimo Creek about 20 feet below. The girl’s brother, whose name has also not been released, managed to rescue his sister from the fast moving current but was unable to save either Cosio or the horse. Authorities found the horse’s body early this morning, but a dive team had to be brought in to locate Cosio’s body. He was found submerged near the animal, and had apparently died from drowning. County officials told My San Antonio that the incident is being treated as an accident, and no foul play is suspected.
