Research conducted by the IGA revealed a concerning lack of confidence among elite grooms regarding exact anti-doping protocols. In the past, accidental contamination (for instance, via human medication or contaminated feed) has repeatedly led to positive anti-doping rule violations in FEI horses.

The new International Groom Clean programme provides accessible, practical education. It teaches grooms exactly how to prevent contamination risks both in the home yard and at competitions, ensuring they know how to work within FEI Clean Sport frameworks.

Free Certification Thanks to FEI Refund

To encourage widespread participation, the FEI will refund the required IGA membership fee for grooms completing the course. This allows grooms to obtain their initial IGC certification at no cost.

Lucy Katan, Executive Director of the IGA:

"Our research among elite competition grooms revealed a concerning lack of confidence in understanding anti-doping protocols. Completing IGC gives grooms, their riders, and owners confidence that everyone understands their responsibilities and knows how to work within the rules. We are hugely grateful to the Jumping Owners Club and our other generous donors, whose support has made this important project possible."

Áine Power, FEI Executive Director of Sport & Games:

"International horse sport depends on the dedication, professionalism, and expertise of grooms. Providing them with user-friendly, high-quality educational resources benefits everyone involved in the sport. We hope all grooms working with FEI horses — whether at FEI Events or at home — will take this opportunity to expand their knowledge."
