Belinda Trussell Named Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month for August

Belinda Trussell of Stouffville, ON, has been named the Dressage Canada Red Scarf Equestrian Athlete of the Month for August. Trussell, who was the anchor rider for the Canadian Dressage Team at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2014 in Normandy, FRA, earned the Team’s highest Grand Prix test score of 71.614% on August 26. Riding Anton (Antaeus x Melit), Robyn Eames' 14-year-old German-bred gelding, Trussell’s top score helped the Team to a ninth place finish on a total combined score of 211.714 at the Games. In addition to the team result, Trussell emerged from the d'Ornano Stadium as the top-placed Canadian, finishing in 26th place individually, securing her spot among the top 30 invited to move on to the Grand Prix Special on August 27. In the Grand Prix Special, her lively performance earned solid marks for many individual movements, including a 7.9 for a piaffe, and an 8 for a passage. She was awarded a final score of 72.409% for her overall performance, which was good for 22nd place. Normandy marked Trussell's third FEI World Equestrian Games, and her second with Anton, who she also competed with at the 2010 Games in Kentucky, USA. “The World Equestrian Games were a highlight in my career,” said Trussell. “Having Anton back in the ring and achieving close to a personal best at a Major Games was a dream come true.” “Thank you to Red Scarf Equestrian for sponsoring the Athlete of the Month. It is an honour to receive this award and to represent Canada at international competitions,” she added.
