The Grand Prix horse of Steffen and Shannon Peters 'Weltino's Magic'  who won team and individual gold with Steffen Peters at the 2011 Pan American Games in Mexico, died today after complications from colic surgery. Weltino's Magic was only 14 years old. When the gelding was five years old both Shannon and Steffen teamed up for the training of the horse. Shannon competed Magic at the Markel / USEF National Young Horse Championships as a 6-year-old, where he earned the reserve title, before handing over the reins to Steffen as the horse had reached more than 17.1 hands tall. This turned out to be a magical combination. The Weltino x Diva son who was owned by Jen Hlavacek became undefeated in 2011. Not only winning the Prix St. Georges and the Intermediaire I in Aachen at the WEG, but they also took home double gold that year in Mexico. A year later it was young rider Brandi Roenick who took over the reins and was succesful with him in the Small Tour. Then in 2015 it was once more Shannon Peters who started him at Grand Prix level. In the beginning of this year it was her student from Canada Ehren Volk who competed with him in the FEI Young Rider test this year winning at the Burbank CDI and Del Mar.     This week he underwent colic surgery, from which he died this thursday after complications. “We so appreciate all the love you poured into Magic as he struggled,” wrote Hlavacek on Facebook. “He passed peacefully and will always live within our hearts as a horse hero and legend.”
