The Irish rider Alexander Butler and his show jumper Will Wimble claimed victory at the CSI2* Grand Prix at Mullingar last Monday. The 25-year-old Meath rider was one of just four to record a double clear round in the nine-horse jump off. Despite a strong challenge from Edward Doyle and Samgemjee, Butler finished with just under a second advantage.
Will Wimble is owned and bred by Harold McGahern, Rincoola, Granard, Co. Longford and the successful partnership with Butler has been in place since 2005, with notable successes achieved to date, including the Lummen Grand Prix in 2012 and the Vodafone Grand Prix title in Balmoral in 2011. Will Wimble (ISH) is a 13 year old grey gelding by Touchdown (ISH) out of The Woolsack (ISH), by Roselier (TB). Earlier at Mullingar, Sven Hadley won the Grand Prix Qualifier aboard Adelgonde Z, while on Saturday Peter Smyth won the 1m40 jump off class with the Irish Sport Horse Victoria Rose.
