In Geneva, the 5-star riders just entered the show ring. In the 'Coup de Genève', the riders had to face a very difficult basic round. Besides the first fence, all fences were combinations. This fact combined with a height off 1,55m resulted in some problems for a few combinations. Fence 4a often hit the ground. Of the 43 competing combinations, 15 managed to ride a clear first round and came back for the jump-off. Because of the difficult basic round, this was a top jump-off with names such as Christian Ahlmann, Bertram Alles, Kevin Staut and Eric Lamaze. Niels Bruynseels and Angel van't Hof (f. Chin Chin) were the second combination to enter the show ring for the jump-off. They jumped a very fast clear round and finished in 39,25 seconds. With this time, they immediately put the pressure on the next combinations. It seemed like nobody would be able to do better than Niels Bruynseels, but then Gregory Wathelet entered the show ring... He rode a spectacular jump-off with his 12-year old BWP stallion Eldorado van het Vijverhof (f. Tunder van de Zuuthoeve). He showed everyone how a jump-off should be ridden and was almost three seconds faster than Niels Bruynseels. This resulted in a beautiful first place. Kevin Staut was the last rider to start in the jump-off. He and Ayade de Septon et HDC (f. Wandor van de Mispelaere) tried to ride even faster than Wathelet, but with a time of 38,68 seconds, he ended on second place. Bruynseels and Angel ended on third place. The fourth place went to Sheikh Ali Al Thani. He and his mare Caroline 31 (f. Colman) left the wood untouched and finished in 40,45 seconds. Christian Ahlmann and the 12-year old stallion Epleaser van't Heike (f. For Pleasure) took account of the fifth spot. Click here for the results
