Nick_SkeltonGCT was able to touch base with Nick Skelton in Florida; about his 2013 Global Champions Tour plans. The Olympic gold medalist, who finished #9 on the GCT Rankings last year, has been enjoying the sun on offer at the 2013 FTI Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival. Nick, who won his first Olympic gold medal last year in London with fellow GCT #14 rider Ben Maher, said he is very much looking forward to this year's exciting GCT season. Britain's leading rider is especially looking forward to the 4th event on the 2013 Global Champions Tour calendar, which will be taking place in London on June 6-9th. Nick spoke to the British Press about the excitement surrounding Global Champions Tour coming to London. "We need something like this for England," Skelton said. "We don't have many international competitions and after the Olympic Games we had a lot of support and publicity, so to bring the Global Champions Tour to London is a great idea. "It should attract a lot of people and spectators. I will definitely be there." We caught up with the world-renowned Brit in West Palm Beach, where he enjoys the Winter Equestrian Festival every year in Florida, along with other notable GCT riders such as Ben Maher, Laura Kraut, Lauren Hough and Beezie Madden. Nick, who won the GCT Grand Prix of Hamburg last year with Big Star, intends on attending GCT events in Madrid (ESP), Hamburg (GER) and Wiesbaden (GER) next month along with London (GBR), Estoril (POR) and Chantilly (FRA). The Global Champions Tour event in Hamburg is one of Nick's favorite events of the season. "I like Hamburg, I like the big grass rings so I'm almost sure to go to Hamburg." Nick finished 9th overall on the 2012 GCT season with a total winnings of €19,000. After a competitive year last year, topped off with an Olympic gold medal, no doubt Nick will be intending to return to the 2013 GCT season on full form with his remarkable stallion Big Star. © Global Champions Tour
