After being absent from the international calender for two years this edition of the Derby of Eindhoven was made even more special by the win of the just eighteen year old Jessica Mendoza. The British rider. that just moved in the Netherlands a few months ago won, dicided to give Derby riding a go and took home the win in front of ex-eventer and derby specialst William Funnel. Mendoza made a smashing debute with her small stallion Ramiro De Belle Vue by having one of only two clear rounds in Eindhoven this Afternoon, the other being William Funnel and Billy Onslow. With William going in first for the jump-0ff and having a pole down, a clear round was all that Mendoza had to do. Nonetheless Jessica sticked to her own plan and rode her jump-off with a higher pace in order to afford a small mistake. Riding a fantastic round she bested Williams time by nearly two and a half second and even with the pole down on the last fence she was set to take home the mini-cooper she had just won. Dutch rider Leon Thijssen and Ulena (v. Baloubet Du Rouet) came in third with 4 penalties as they got an unlucky stride to a fence after getting down from the outlander bank.
