The LGCT Grand Prix in Rabat has just been completed. Forty pairs took part, but the first round proved to be extremely tough, with only seven combinations advancing to the jump-off.
The victory ultimately went to Monaco thanks to 19-year-old Anastasia Nielsen riding Action Man (Action-Breaker). The pair were the only ones to remain faultless over the two rounds! With this victory, she is now also assured of a ticket to the Super Grand Prix in Prague.
"I was already thrilled to be clear in the first round, this is really a dream come true. It was my first clear round in a 1.60m GP and also in an LGCT. I had no expectations but just did my best. I knew that all my opponents would be very strong and very fast, so I just went for a safe clear round. I never dared to dream that I would be here now. It's very special and a real honour to be the youngest winner! I am extremely grateful to Action Man, my parents, my team and also the Iron Dames, because they have all made it possible for me to be here now. It's really unbelievable, this really exceeds all my expectations and wildest dreams. During the first round, I just thought: 'Try to ride clear.' Riding a jump-off against all those big names like Marcus Ehning is very special. Action Man is very special, I've had him since he was 8 and we've been through a lot, but he's a great horse."
Andreas Schou and Napoli van het Nederassenthof (President) ensured that the Silver went to Denmark.
Andreas Schou's brother responded: ‘We are very happy with second place here. It is a big goal this season to get into the top 3 of the LGCT Ranking. He had a slight miscommunication on the obstacle before the double, which meant he just couldn't get through the double properly. After that, he was able to recover perfectly and stick to the plan.’
Andreas Schou: ‘Napoli deserved the podium and I am very happy with second place. I am super happy for Anastasia and her amazing team. It's great that my old horse Action Man won here with her. I will be bringing Napoli back to Riyadh and I hope to be on the podium with him at the championship.’
Denis Lynch with Cordial (Casall) secured the bronze for Ireland as the first in the jump-off.
Denis Lynch: ‘I am very happy for Anastasia and she has achieved a wonderful performance. We have been very patient with Cordial, especially my daughter, but he is a great stallion. I just did my job and Cordial is simply fantastic.’
Pieter Devos also had a very strong round with Primo DV (Vigo d'Arsouilles) and finished in fourth place, just ahead of Marcus Ehning and Flower Girl (Hickstead).
