Earlier this week, Thibault Philippaerts led his team, St Tropez Pirates, to victory in the Global Champions League. Just now, the young Belgian kept his rivals at bay once again by winning the 1.50m Prix presented by Qatar! In this speed class, Philippaerts raced to first place with his nine-year-old BWP gelding, Quilano (Arezzo VDL).
Thibault Philippaerts and the nine-year-old son of Arezzo VDL (breeder: Michel Steyvers) claimed victory after a flawless round in 60.68 seconds. “Quilano jumped super today... I stuck to our plan, and luckily it worked out perfectly,” Philippaerts said afterwards.
“Quilano is a very intelligent horse in the ring. I hope that in the Grand Prix he’ll be in the same great form as he was on Friday. But I also know that every class brings a whole new set of challenges to jump… there are no guarantees!”
Philippaerts finished more than a second ahead of former Belgian Champion Koen Vereecke and his nine-year-old BWP mare Quinoa de la Liniere (Mosito van het Hellehof). Exactly one second further behind, Petronella Andersson completed the top three aboard the 11-year-old BWP mare Odina van Klapscheut (Zazu).
Just outside the top three, Sara Vingralkova took fourth place with Constantin 110n (Colestus), while Simon Delestre and his nine-year-old Gatsby du Tillard (President) rounded out the top five.
Pieter Devos also made it into the top ten, riding Panamarenka van den Blauwaert (For Passion d’Ive Z), he delivered a clear round to finish in seventh place.
