The CSI4* competition in Ascona delivered a spectacular jump-off on Saturday afternoon, with the top riders separated by mere fractions of a second. Against strong international opposition, Swiss rider Edouard Schmitz emerged victorious, showcasing precision and speed in a high-stakes 1.45m Longines Ranking class.
Edouard Schmitz secured the win aboard Karel Doorman (Dakar VDL), with a flawless jump-off round in 35.49 seconds.
In second place, Ireland’s Mark McAuley delivered another fast and clear effort on Django Ste Hermelle (Upercut Kervec) in 36.22 seconds. McAuley pushed the pace but ultimately could not match Schmitz’s decisive ride.
Just a hair slower, Bryan Balsiger of Switzerland claimed third place aboard Baltik Sitte (Ogano Sitte). His round stopped the clock at 36.27 seconds, securing yet another podium finish for Swiss colors.
Portugal’s Rodrigo Sampaio Peixoto kept the pressure on with Hipop de Cantraie (Ebel), finishing fourth in 36.32 seconds.
The top five was completed by Kristaps Neretnieks of Latvia, who piloted Quintes (Quinton) to a clear round in 36.73 seconds, just shy of the leaders but ensuring representation for the Baltic nation at the sharp end of the standings.
