Elimination confirmed after unfastened helmet

The Istanbul Warriors were eliminated after Delestre's helmet became unfastened during his round, a decision that was formalised today. In their published statement, the team described the situation as unintentional and emphasised that no voluntary action led to the opening of the helmet. They expressed concern that similar situations had been handled differently at other events, referencing a round in Monaco where another rider reportedly finished with an open helmet without receiving elimination.

In a follow-up message addressed to riders, owners, and sponsors, the Istanbul Warriors highlighted the potential broader implications of the ruling. They encouraged the equestrian community to review the matter independently and consider how varying interpretations of rules could influence results across competitions.

The team pointed out that, had the same standard been applied in Monaco, the final standings there would likely have been different.

Organisers provide their assessment

Global Champions and the Prague Playoffs organisation released an official response acknowledging awareness of the incident but characterising the helmet opening as “extremely minor.” They stated that the appointed judges did not identify the unfastened helmet during the round and therefore did not consider it impactful enough to influence the result.

“As organisers, our priority is always to ensure the best possible decisions are made for the sport and for the safety of all involved,” the statement read. They also noted that responsibility for applying and enforcing rules lies with the FEI and the official judging panel, not with the event organisers.

While expressing respect for the officials’ authority, the organisers acknowledged that the decision has consequences extending beyond the team concerned: “Decisions of this nature affect not only the fairness and integrity of the sport, but also the hard work and commitment of the athletes and our entire organisation.”
