Traditionally, Wednesday in Aachen concludes with the 1.60m Turkish Airlines Prize of Europe! In this CSIO5* main class, thirteen combinations qualified for the jump-off. Kent Farrington was the last to go and ultimately won with the 10-year-old Myla! “A big heart in a small package” is how the US American rider, Kent Farrington, describes his Holsteiner Crunch daughter, Myla...
Belgium’s Emilie Conter chose not to start her Portobella van de Fruitkorf (Bamako de Muze x Nabab de Rêve) in the jump-off. In the end, twelve combinations returned for the final round. One fast time after another kept getting beaten. Eventually, Kent Farrington, the last to go, secured the win. Farrington rode the 10-year-old Myla (by Crunch 3) to victory.
“The other combinations are super as well, so it was a challenging task. But I knew exactly what I had to do,” is how Farrington described his strategy before the jump-off: “I trust my horse and her speed, even if I do one stride more, she has a faster footstep.“ And that is how he snatched the victory again today.
The pair finished just a few tenths of a second faster than Daniel Bluman with the 10-year-old Corbie V.V. (by Cornet Obolensky, bred by Evelyne Van Vreckom).
Bluman and the 10-year-old mare stayed over a second ahead of Ben Maher and the 12-year-old SF mare Dallas Vegas Batilly (by Cap Kennedy, bred by Jean-Claude Viollet).
“In-form” Richard Vogel also earned a prize in this class. In front of his home crowd, the German guided the 11-year-old Cloudio (by Casall, bred by Heike Arendt) to a faultless fourth place.
The top five of this 1.60m main class was completed by Ioli Mytilineou and the 14-year-old Toulon son, L’Artiste de Toxandra (bred by Werner Dierckx).
