Pre-race, we gave World Number One rider, Kent Farrington, the greatest chance of winning the Rolex Grand Prix of Geneva. This afternoon, eight combinations managed to qualify for the jump-off of this 1.60m Grand Prix. In the end Farrington confirmed the statistics with a victory! Earlier this week Farrington was dissapointed after ending second in the Rolex Top Ten Finals and now took "revenge" claiming the win!
Scott Brash was the 'live contender' for this Grand Slam Grand Prix. With two jumping faults, he now loses the Grand Slam position. American show jumper, Kent Farrington, jumped to the eventual victory with his trusted mare, Greya (Colestus). The duo jumped to victory in 40.04 seconds, thus relegating Shane Sweetnam to second place.
On his third Major victory, Farrington commented: “I feel very proud to be back here with a top horse and I’m really happy with her result today. I thought she jumped unreal and she deserved to win a big class like this, so a great way to finish the year.”
On his mare Greya, Farrington said: “I’m super proud of Greya and I’m happy for my whole team that’s behind me and bringing this all together for me. It really is a team sport and there’s a lot behind the scenes, and I’m very happy for all involved.”
Finally, on his groom Denise Moriarty, Farrington added: “Denise is a huge part of my success. She's been with me a long time now, more than 10 years. She's been a big part of the journey and my career and bringing up these horses, riding the highs and the lows, which is a tough reality of our sport – you lose a lot more than you win. So, to be there in those tough moments and be there in those great moments, I’mvery lucky to have her as a part of my team.”
The Irishman set the first clear round in the jump-off. Together with James Kann Cruz (Kannan), he ultimately finished second. Belgian youth talent, Thibeau Spits, completed the final top three. Spits rounded off the podium with Impress-K van 't Kattenheye (Indoktro K van 't Kattenheye).
Fourth place ultimately went to Germany thanks to Sophie Hinners, who rode Iron Dames Singclair (Singular Ls La Silla) for the 1.60m class. The top 5 was completed by the home rider Jason Smith with Picobello van 't Roosakker (Kassander van 't roosakker) under the saddle.
