American show jumping rider Kent Farrington has announced his decision to withdraw from consideration for the upcoming 2026 FEI World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.
Sharing the news via social media, Farrington stated that the decision was made to prioritize the long-term management and progression of his top horses over competing at the championship this August.
Focus on Horse Development and LA 2028
Farrington explained that his decision follows careful evaluation of the trajectories for two of his primary mounts: Greya and Descartes SR.
Greya has already contested a championship on home soil this year, and we were fortunate enough to come away with the victory," Farrington noted. "While Descartes SR has delivered some outstanding performances this season, I believe he is still developing and that a championship of this magnitude comes a bit too soon in his career."
Farrington indicated that his strategic focus is directed toward the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
With the Olympics on home soil in Los Angeles in 2028, I believe the right decision is to prioritize that goal and continue developing both horses with their long-term future in mind," he added. "This approach gives them the best opportunity for sustained success while allowing each horse to progress at the right pace."
