The Belgian rider, Kelly Cornelis, has said goodbye to her home-bred, Baloucante Di Luna. Together with the seven-year-old AES mare, Cornelis caught the spotlight on numerous occasions. "For me, Baloucante is my once-in-a-lifetime horse," the rider told our editorial team. "The honor of riding such a mare will not likely come my way again soon."
The track record of Cornelis and Baloucante Di Luna (Balou du Rouet x Canturano I) is extensive. Together, the pair competed three times at the FEI WBFSH World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses. As a five-year-old, the pair secured the silver medal at the Belgian Championship for female riders.
"I am happy that she is going to an incredibly good rider." Karl Cook is taking over the reins of the mare. "After Geneva, Karl came to try her out, and they clicked immediately," Cornelis continued. "Competing with her meant, without a doubt, that I would be taking a ribbon home. For myself, I find comfort in the fact that both the grandmother (32.5 years old) and the mother are still with me!"
Kristin Medall Simpson-Ferguson Hardin also shared the news, after she discover the mare thanks to Belgium's All In Horses. "She is a freak of a horse! Congratulations Karl! Happy New Year!"
