The first round appeared very fairly built, resulting in a jump-off with 19 combinations. The second round of this 1.60m Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix proved to be a true decider! More than halfway through the jump-off, only three combinations had managed to stay clear. Risks had to be taken, leading to faults at various points on the course.

Nicola Philippaerts immediately put pressure on the competition. Together with the 16-year-old BWP mare, Katanga vh Dingeshof (Cardento, breeder: L. Vermeulen), he was the first to start and set the pace with a clear round in 45.31 seconds! Only compatriot Thibeau Spits and the 16-year-old BWP gelding, King Van Essene (Calido I, breeder: Carlos de Cock)—as the final pair to start—could have improved on that performance. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be, and the pair finished 19th.

This marks the second LGCT Grand Prix win of Philippaerts' career, following his victory in the 2024 Grand Prix of Mexico. "Nicola's horse is in peak form," Niels Bruynseels reacted afterwards. "Even before the jump-off, he looked like the man to beat. Katanga showed immense power in her first round, and it was clear they were hungry for the win. By going first, he really put the pressure on the rest. Nicola rode a truly perfect jump-off!"

Marcus Ehning and Coolio 42 (Casalito) jumped clear to take second place. Antoine Ermann completed the top three with the 12-year-old KWPN stallion, Jaimo VDS (Thunder vd Zuuthoeve). Just outside the top three were Scott Brash with Hello Chadora Lady (Chacco-Blue) in fourth, followed by Simon Delestre and the 10-year-old SF gelding, Gatsby du Tillard (President) in fifth.

Katanga is fantastic "Katanga is just a fantastic horse; I am so incredibly grateful to her," Nicola Philippaerts said afterwards. "Starting first, she gave it her all. She is 16 years old but unbeatable! She gives her absolute everything!"

Finally back on the podium "It's been a long time since I was on the podium," Marcus Ehning smiled afterwards. "We've had some setbacks, but this is great! The jump-off was delicately built, but it put a big smile on my face!"
