The Brazilian Equestrian Federation has announced Dutch, Piet Raijmakers will follow up, Philippe Guerdat as new coach of its national show jumping team. Although the Olympics didn't go as planned for Brazil, Guerdat left a strong mark to his successor.
Guerdat ensured a strong team for the Brazilian equestrian federation. Brazil once again secured two medals at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. Now Piet Raijmakers will replace Guerdat.
Piet Raijmakers began his role at the start of the year. The 68-year-old Dutchman is well-known on the international scene. He was the first rider of the exceptional mare Ratina Z, with whom he became European team champion in 1991 in La Baule, as well as Olympic team champion and individual silver medalist at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He later exchanged "the mare of the century" for Classic Touch, with whom Ludger Beerbaum went on to become Olympic champion in Barcelona.
“Piet spent a few weeks with us in Florida. And now, he’s going to begin working in Europe, traveling to CSIO 3* events and other international competitions. For now, everything is going very well,” said Rodrigo Pessoa. “I believe we’re lucky to have someone like him, so we’re going to try to do our best job. This year, we’ve been invited to the CSIO 5* in Aachen, which is a real opportunity for our team. That will be our championship of the year, and we’ll do everything we can to perform as well as possible there,” concluded the 2004 Olympic champion.
