Following the FEI's announcement that the CSIO St. Gallen will not be part of the League of Nations in 2025, the Swiss federation has released a press release expressing its disappointment with the decision. The organization of the CSIO St. Gallen has also reacted with shock! "The FEI itself prematurely terminated the contract that ran until 2027. After we had to cancel the competition in 2024 due to bad weather, we immediately took action and decided to improve the track by 2025. This, in cooperation with the local government and the Swiss federation."
The organizing committee and Swiss Equestrian have made every effort in recent months to preserve the historic traditional event in St. Gallen by proposing massive improvements to the ground infrastructure. The FEI's decision has undeniably negative consequences for the riders, their environment, equestrian enthusiasts, and the reputation of show jumping in Switzerland.
"It is a shock and at the same time an affront to Swiss equestrian sports! This decision not only affects the athletes and their environment but also the entire organizing committee, partners, helpers, and Swiss Equestrian Friends who follow the performances of the Swiss riders in Gründenmoss with passion every year," explains Damian Müller, president of Swiss Equestrian. "Our association has invested resources and time in recent months to support the Longines CSIO St. Gallen and its organizing committee, with the aim of ensuring its implementation under the best possible conditions. We are aware that significant improvements need to be made to the ground. After intensive studies, investments have already been started and work has begun. We are firmly convinced that this tournament, which has marked the history of Swiss equestrian sports more than any other event, deserves to remain an event of the Longines League of Nations. We share the disappointment of all those involved and fans. It is a very hard blow."
Swiss Equestrian confirms its commitment to promoting equestrian sports in Switzerland and announces that it will do everything possible to organize a stage of the Longines League of Nations, one of the most prestigious show jumping series, on Swiss soil again in the future. "We are determined to work together with our partners and the FEI to organize an event of this magnitude in Switzerland again soon. We will work tirelessly. Personally, I will take on the coordination and call on all equestrian enthusiasts to fight together for Swiss equestrian sports!" adds Damian Müller. Swiss Equestrian thanks the organizing committee, sponsors, helpers, and all riders for their support and unwavering commitment to the CSIO St. Gallen in the difficult recent months. Swiss Equestrian will continue to support the tournament's organizing committee in evaluating the possibilities for the future continuation of the event.
