The beloved showjumping stallion Colmar from Breen Equestrian has passed away at the age of 15. The stunning grey jumped at five-star level with Hickstead-based Shane Breen, but also competed under Georgia Tame and Jack Ryan. His impressive career was cut short in 2020 by an injury, after which he was used as a breeding stallion.
Colmar (by Colestus out of the Quidam’s Rubin mare Piritta) was purchased as a three-year-old by Shane Breen and Michael Quirke together with the Pysarenko family and Ruslan Havrylyuk, after he had won a loose-jumping competition in Leipzig.
He excelled in young horse classes, later won a CSI2* Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi with Jack Ryan and placed in a 1.60m Grand Prix. With Shane Breen he even placed in a puissance class at the World Cup leg in Oslo.
“He was noticed very early on and many people followed him closely,” says Shane. “Those same people are now extremely curious about his offspring. He was always a very pleasant horse to work with – super character, great attitude and a special technique that he has clearly passed on.”
His international career was phenomenal until an unfortunate injury brought it to a premature end. After that he retired as a breeding stallion. His legacy will now live on in his children.” Several offspring are already competing at 1.45m to 1.60m level and a few are already making a name for themselves in international sport.
Co-owners Anatoliy and Konstantin Pysarenko say they are “deeply saddened that a superstar has to leave us so young. May he gallop happily across the green pastures of horse heaven.” They add: “He will remain in our hearts forever.”
Our sincere condolences go out to Shane Breen, his team and all co-owners during this difficult time.
