The Longines World Cup in Leipzig delivered some incredible sport! No fewer than 13 combinations managed to qualify for the jump-off in this 1.60m course. Willem Greve ultimately claimed the victory! "I'm still in awe; this is my first-ever World Cup win!" Greve shared.
For a long time, Willem Greve and Highway TN N.O.P. (breeder: P. Verdellen Paarden Fok) topped the leaderboard. Together with the 13-year-old son of Eldorado vd Zeshoek, Greve clearly put the pressure on the competition! Everything came down to the final rider, France's Simon Delestre and his Dexter Fontenis (Diarado). The duo was unable to beat the clock and ultimately settled for second place!
"I came close to winning," Simon Delestre said afterward. "This is the third big class in a row where we've stood on the podium. Of course, I would have preferred to win, but that's how the sport goes!"
"My horse is still young but keeps winning," Greve said after the event. "Highway is truly a fighter. In Mechelen, I started off a bit too cautiously. This time, I went all-in, and it paid off. Highway really deserves this victory! I'm so thrilled!"
The duo pushed Hans-Dieter Dreher with the 13-year-old Elysium (VDL Zirocco Blue) into third place.
Just outside the top three was Zascha Nygaard Lill riding the 12-year-old Noah de Kalvarie (Ustinov). Alongside the BWP horse, Lill managed to stay ahead of Martin Fuchs with Conner Jei (Connor).
