Willem Greve: "X-rays is one, but the horses' history is two..."

© Tomas Holcbecher

A lot has been written about the challenges surrounding medical examinations in equestrian sports. In the past, horses were simply categorized after an examination: rejected, perfectly healthy, or approved for the sport. Today, however, X-rays seem to play an increasingly significant role in the sale of horses. "At our stable I'm actually not there when horses are checked," Maikel van der Vleuten admits. "It's important to know why you perform the vetcheck," Willem Greve adds. "There's no longer approved or not approved. Veterinarians can always find a remark, but that doesn't need to be a bad thing!"
