The Zangersheide gelding Romeo 88 (ex. Champion of Picobello Z, Contact van de Heffinck x Orlando), who, together with his rider Harry Charles, competed twice at the Olympic Games, is retiring to a sporty pension! Charles himself announced this on his Instagram.
The Contact van de Heffinck son, Romeo 88, made his mark with numerous victories, culminating in the British Olympic gold team medal in Paris last year. The gelding also competed in several World Cup finals, World Championships, and countless Grand Prix events.
The gelding, who was owned by Ann Thompson, has been under the saddle of Harry Charles for five years. Charles had previously ridden horses owned by Thompson, such as Balou du Reventon and Aralyn Blue.
"Romeo will return to his old friend Balou in the USA, where he will enjoy a wonderful retirement. I’m so happy that he gets to retire at the peak of his career – he truly deserves it! A thank you will never be enough, enjoy your retirement, my friend," Harry Charles wrote on Instagram.
