Giampiero Garofalo is new 2023 Italian champion

With a fantastic performance, Giampiero Garofalo, riding Max Van Lentz Schrans (by Untouched), is the number one in the 2023 Italian Showjumping Championships. Today, Saturday, April 22, we saw the first selected rider on the green course of Circolo Ippico Le Siepi in Cervia win the most important national event in show jumping. Silver medal for Michol Del Signore, bronze medal for Francesco Turturiello.

Already in fifth place after the first day of competition, Garofalo captured the top of the leaderboard after two nearly perfect rounds. The first round was over 1.50m high obstacles but on the second day the obstacles were raised to 1.60m high, a first for Garofalo and the 11-year-old stallion Max van Lentz Schrans, a son of Untouched. A successful debut as the pair could not be caught at any fault over the entire line. The pair put in a strong performance and was awarded the trophy.

"This medal is a wonderful satisfaction. I am happy to have won such a prestigious event, exactly on the occasion of my first participation in the Absolute Championship," said Giampiero Garofalo.

The silver medal went to Michol Del Signore with the spotted Irish Coffee and third place to Francesco Turturiello and Made In't Ruytershof (by Norton d'Eole). He was also in the top three of the Italian championship last year.

"The horse jumped very well, and we have a demanding season ahead of us, looking forward to the CSIO in Rome, where, thanks to this result, I will have the chance to jump again." The Italian rider may already prepare his stallion for the CSIO Rome because the prize attached to this victory was a ticket for the Grand Prix at the Italian event!
