Preferred candidate Brisbane clinches 2032 Summer Games

The 2032 Summer Olympics will be held in Brisbane, Australia, the International Olympic Committee has decided. The choice for Brisbane is not surprising, as the city was already the preferred candidate to host the Games.

A special commission of the IOC has been holding "targeted discussions" with Brisbane since February. The IOC introduced the system of preferred candidates in order to prevent bid cities from spending large amounts of money to profile themselves. Jakarta, Doha, Istanbul, Budapest, New Delhi, St Petersburg and Chengdu had also expressed interest in hosting the 2032 Games. It is the third time Australia will host the Games after Sydney in 2000 and Melbourne in 1956.After the Tokyo Games, which officially begin on Friday, Paris will host the 2024 Games, while Los Angeles already knows it may host the 2028 Games.
