A first for Callie Schott in MLSJ CSI5* Grand Prix

Last to return in a four-horse jump-off, Callie Schott (USA) and Garant delivered a memorable win to the crowd at Traverse City Horse Shows in the Major League Show Jumping (MLSJ) CIS5* Grand Prix.

Garant, an 11-year-old KWPN gelding (Warrant x Verdi TN) owned by Southern Arches, LLC, joined Schott's string after jumping to success with her trainer and four-time U.S. Olympian Beezie Madden. Schott's victory marked her first-ever CSI5* Grand Prix win.

“Beezie and I went over the plan and she helped me really think about it,” said Schott. “[The plan was] to try to beat Nick, and to go as fast as I could, but feel comfortable doing it."

Leading before Schott entered the ring was Nicholas Dello Joio (USA), Schott's MLSJ teammate on the Crusaders. He and Cornet's Cambridge settled for second place for owner The Berry Group, while Conor Swail's (IRL) pace-setting round landed him third on his own Vital Chance de la Roque.

Major League Show Jumping heads north from Traverse City, MI, for phase three at Angelstone Tournaments in Toronto, ON, from August 18 to 21.

A Word From The Winner

"We've been building our partnership over the last few months, and Thursday's [CSI5*] class was the first class that - from start to finish - was smooth and we were together. He gets very aggressive and wants to get too close to the jumps sometimes, then jumps too high, and then it gets a little erratic. It was the first course that I really put it all together, and I think it just carried over into today.

Every day he comes out and he loves to work. His ears are pricked all the time. He loves life and he loves his job. He wants to do this job. He really is a show jumper. He loves it." ~ Callie Schott (USA)
