Alexander Butler takes winning start in Gijon

In Spain it was Ireland's Alexander Butler who conquered the first CSIO5* class aboard his 11-year-old KWPN-gelding, Dekato.

Alexander Butler was the only to keep the chrono in under 65 seconds with his son of Upgrade. Great-Britain's Ellen Whitaker followed as runner-up in the saddle of the 10-year-old Diola (Locarno 62). 

The stage of this 1.40m class was completed by France's Laurent Goffinet in the saddle of the Zangersheide-gelding, Nimrod de Muze Z (Nabab de Reve). The pair was followed by Samantha Mcintosch in the saddle of James S (Verdi). Rodrigo Giesteira Almeida completed the top five with Gaga E D'Augustijn (Bustique).
