First day of the Longines EEF Series CSIO3* in Madrid at the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, delivered a Belgian victory. Three classes were held on this opening day, which ended with the triumph of Belgian Bart Clarys in the Caser Seguros Trophy.
Almost 90 combinations took the start in the 1.45m main class. As a preparation to Saturday's Nations Cup, it was Belgium's Bart Clarys and Geste van de Vihta (Zirocco Blue VDL), who took the lead. The pair was only a tiny bit faster as Great-Britain's Sienna Charles, who eventually settled as runner-up aboard Valkiry de Zance (Diamant de Semilly).
Competitive French rider, Olivier Perreau completed the stage with his Bresil de Carnaval.
At the green grass arena of the Club de Campo Villa in Madrid home-rider Eduardo Alvarez Aznar set the best Spanish result with his Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot (L'Arc de Triomphe). The pair made an impressive finish towards the fifth place.
