Daniel Coyle and Cita take winning start at Spruce Meadows

A total of 19 combinations qualified this morning in the 1.50m opening class at Spruce Meadows. 17 returned as Erynn  Ballard with Fellini S and Angelie von Esse aboard Luikan Q decided not to start. Eventually it was last rider at the start, Daniel Coyle who speeded to victory in the saddle of Cita.

Early in the Jump-Off it was local hero, and former Olympic Champion, Eric Lamaze who took the lead in the saddle of his 13-year-old Chacco-Kid (Chacco-Blue). The pair crossed the finish in 37.22 seconds. A few combinations later, Brazil show jumping rider, Eduardo Menezes took over the lead with over half a second difference. Menezes stopped the timer in under 37 seconds with Ennebel van het Posthuijs (Numero Uno).

Final Ranking

Eventually Ireland's Daniel Coyle produced the fastest clear Jump-Off round as last rider at the start. Aboard Cita (Casall ASK), Coyle jumped to the first victory in Calgary, leaving Eduardo Menezes and Eric Lamaze behind.

The Irish show jumping rider also placed fourth with Legacy while Omer Kareaevli completed the top five in the saddle of Cheston de la Pomme d'Or Z (Chippendale Z).
