Daniel Deusser wins World Cup of Mechelen in a spectacular way

In Mechelen thé highlight of a busy international weekend was scheduled for this afternoon: the FEI World Cup Jumping. 36 combinations entered the show ground for this class with a jump-off. The first combination to clear Eddy Geysemans course were Joha-Sebastian Gulliksen and Chaloubet (f. Balou du Rouet). After them, another 11 combinations would follow. A jump-off with 12 combiinations therefore had to decide about the winner.

The Norwegian rider Gulliksen was the first rider to start. He and Chaloubet (f. Balou du Rouet) did get 2 jumping penalties, but his time of 43,07 seconds did show the other riders what they had to do. Wilm Vermeir was the first rider to jump a clear round with IQ van het Steentje (f. Toulon). His time of 46,16 seconds wasn't the fastest, but he did keep the zero on the score board. Vermeir stood on the lead for a very long time, but then Pius Schwizer came in. With the 10-year old gelding Cornet Cox (f. Carlo) under the saddle, he jumped a clear jump-off in 44,02 seconds; moving Vermeir into second place.

The last rider to enter the show ring was Daniel Deusser. He did was wat expected of him and put everything in his power to win the World Cup. And he managed to do so: he rode Killer Queen VDM (f. Eldorado v. Zeshoek) to the finish in 41,37 seconds, leaving the wood untouched.

First place for Deusser, second for Scwhizer and third for Vermeir. Christian Kukuk, who rode a beautiful clear round with Quintino (f. Quinton), ended on fourth place. The fastest time came from Emanuele Gaudiano and Chalou (f. Chacco-Blue). He however kicked one fence down which resulted in the fifth place.
