Exell excels in first world cup of the season

Two World Cups were scheduled on Sunday afternoon in Lyon: the one for the Drivers and the Jumping riders. As always, the drivers had to do a basic round, the best three from that basic round were again allowed to compete in the drive-off where wins and losses would be decided; After an exciting first round, Boyd Exell, Ijsbrand Chardon and Dries Degrieck were allowed to go to the drive-off.

In the drive-off, it was top favourite Boyd Exell who shredded the competition. He rode a time as much as 10 seconds faster than that of his first pursuer, however, he also made one mistake resulting in a total of 162.76 seconds, which was still more than enough to clinch victory. Ijsbrand Chardon followed in second place. He clocked off in 168.62 seconds, making no mistakes in the process. Dries Degrieck was also able to ride clear and finished in 175.59 seconds, good for bronze.

This round was also the first round of the World Cup season for drivers. So today's result is immediately the provisional standings in the standings.
