Exquisitely bred jumper foals for sport and breeding

For years, Elite Foal Auction Borculo has warranted interesting foals out of exclusive sport lineages. Selector Henk van den Broek emphasizes: “We have also focused on athletic, electric foals with abundant balance.” Looking for a top filly to enhance your breeding program? Or in search of an exclusive stallion prospect? You find your perfect match here! The auction is open from now on and ends online August 24.

2022 also marks the year of a new selection committee jumping. Henk van den Broek and Jos Swinkels took over the reins and now present an impressive jumper collection of 32 foals. Henk van den Broek exudes horses in every way and gained his fame and expertise as a showjumper, trainer and as a member of the KWPN Stallion Selection Committee. “We are incredibly pleased with this collection! We deem it important that the foals originate from established sport lineages, however we have also focused on the question whether a foal is athletic and electric itself. Balance in the canter was another priority. A remarkable pedigree is hot right now, but functional sport models are essential for whatever purpose you buy a foal.”

Henk is accompanied by Jos Swinkels, who represents new blood himself, not only through his age, but also thanks to his modern vision on breeding. Jos has a passion for bloodlines and happily puts it to use at Borculo. “It’s a lot of fun to join Henk in the search for the finest foals the Netherlands has to offer. First, we do our homework and study the pedigree, so we can opt for a more targeted approach and then hit the road to view the foals in person. A good damline that is filled with sport performance is key. Only when the foal itself also appeals to us and possesses a correct conformation and good movements he meets our criteria and is admitted to the collection.”

Top of the bill

Those who are looking for an interesting filly for breeding have come to the right place at Borculo. “The current trend is that it is more difficult to get your hands on fillies, as most breeders try to keep the mares. Fortunately, we can rely on a strong network at Borculo, not only regarding buyers, but also breeders that have offered us the top of the bill”, states Henk van den Broek. Jos adds: “If you look at fillies from a breeding perspective, it is foremost important that they are bred out of a carefully composed lineage, in which every generation has produced good sport horses.” One of the highlights, according to this duo, is Caramelle v/d Nachtegaal Z (s.Conthargos): “We love Holsteiner breeding and as an offspring of Holstein stam 890 she is moreover bred out of the damline of Berlin.” Henk and Jos also name Echo Lima Z (s.Echo van ’t Spieveld). “Some foals have the so-called golden thread, and this is one of them. Echo van ‘t Spieveld produced so many fantastic showjumpers already and the third mare in this foal’s damline jumped 1.60m with Gerco Schröder. Plus, the dam is an offspring of Cassini I, a stallion we love to see in the pedigree as he always produces cooperative horses.” A foal that hopes to follow in her mother’s footsteps is Sominka (s.Denzel van ’t Meulenhof). “She originates from the Minka-line, a typically Dutch damline. Sire Denzel van ‘t Meulenhof is earning his stripes in breeding and has a great ambassador in his approved son Nixon van ‘t Meulenhof. Moreover, Sominka is bred out of a top scoring dam that obtained 90 points for reflexes and the pedigree constitutes of exclusively leading sires”, praises Jos. “We furthermore have three quality
