Belgium's Gudrun Patteet has announced the retirement of her now 16-year-old Zangersheide gelding Sea Coast Pebbles Z (Picasso Z x Flamenco de Semilly).
Sea Coast Pebbles Z had had a long and successful career with Patteet in the saddle. In 2017, the pair won the CSI 5* Grand Prix in Knokke, and the year after they topped the CSI 5*-W World Cup in Helsinki, the CSI 5* Grand Prix in La Coruna as well as the CSI 3* Grand Prix in Lanaken. In 2019, the pair took yet another big win when going to the top in the CSI 5* Grand Prix in Lausanne.
"The five-start Grand Prix in Knokke is my most memorable moment with Pebbles," Patteet tells World of Showjumping. "It was my first five-start Grand Prix win and to do it in front of my home crowd was amazing."
"I have ridden Pebbles since he was 8-years-old," Patteet says. "He was a very difficult and hot horse, and he has taught me to stay very, very calm. He will retire at home in his field where his stable is. He has lived there all the time already though, seeing that he has so much blood - so it won't be a big transition for him."
