EEF asks FEI to remain 'fully prepared' for the European Championships

The European federation EEF has asked the FEI to remain 'fully prepared' to allow the European championships to take place in 2021, if circumstances permit it. In a newsletter, the chairman, Theo Ploegmakers, announced that the majority of the national federations are of the opinion that after the Corona pandemic the sport is best concentrated on the European continent and that it is therefore certainly advisable to let the European Championship take place.

"Even if the Olympic Games in Tokyo take place, the European Championship remains the highlight of the year for many of the national federations. Of course it is not ideal to have two major championships in one year, but the EEF is asking the FEI for an exception. before 2021. "Exceptional times call for exceptional measures," said the EEF.

The European championships would normally take place from August 23 to September 5. However, it was previously announced that the jumping would not take place due to the postponement of the Olympic Games. The FEI felt it was not possible to send two full teams to two major championships. Several chef d'équipes refuted this decision and asked for the European Championship jumping to continue, with the support of the EEF. The FEI then asked the EEF to develop a realistic proposal.
