Suus Kuyten's Top Contender passed away after jumping his ranking class. "This is heartbreaking"

On her social media, Dutch show jumper, Suus Kuyten has announced the death of her 15-year-old Top Contender (Lauriston) . "R.I.P Top Contender, We will miss you," the rider states.

Yesterday Harrie Wiering jumped to the ninth place in the Longines Ranking class at CSI2* Exloo. Recently the combination also placed in Valkenswaard, Ommen, Houten, etc.

Earlier this year also Suus Kuyten competed the sire. "This is surreal. Top Contender jumped amazing in the ranking class on Thursday. While leaving the arena he just collapsed. We suspect a heart attack is the reason."

Further research has to determine the cause of death. "Hij was a super nice horse," Suus adds. "This is the other side of the medal. Horses and our sport is the most beautiful thing that exists. But sometimes these abrupt endings ... it is heartbreaking."
