Boudewijn Schepers: "I think it is fantastic that those horses are born at 'big' breeders as well as 'small' breeders"

2021 is drawing to a close. How does Boudewijn Schepers, vice-president of BWP, look back on the BWP year?

Boudewijn: "I can actually summarize it in one word. Fantastic! It's fantastic to see what BWP horses achieve week after week at the highest level. The Olympics were the icing on the cake in that aspect. Everybody has now seen that very good horses are bred by our BWP breeders. I also think it is fantastic that those horses are born by 'big' breeders as well as 'small' breeders. This shows that breeding horses is not something like complicated mathematics. That the power of the big number can also be relative. That it also has a lot to do with knowledge, experience, horsemanship and with love and passion for the animals. And that is just one of the strengths of our breeders."

BWP the number one in WBFSH ranking

"BWP is now the number one in the WBFSH ranking. The new techniques will undoubtedly create shifts in the breeding landscape and it is not certain what impact that will have," continued Boudewijn. "Bringing technique and genetics together is one thing. Knowledge, experience, horsemanship, love/passion, breeding, training and having top riders bring them to competitions is another thing. And it is precisely in that area that our country, Belgium currently scores very highly."

Wishes for 2022

Boudewijn Schepers: "I wish the studbook in 2022 an equally good year as 2021. But then without the threat of those nasty viruses. For the breeders I wish very fine foals and smooth births and a very good health! The fact we have to organize the second phase of the stallion selection without an audience again is of course a disappointment, but we hope that we can more than make up for this at the third phase."
