Jonathon Millar, the son of only recently elected Canadian national coach Ian Millar but also successfully active in the sport himself, was involved in a car accident on the grounds of the Wellington International on March 12. The 49-year-old rider was immediately hospitalized where he remains to this day.
On March 20, the family reported via social media that Jonathon's situation was stable after successful brain surgery to clear bleeding and swelling, but was still kept in an artificial coma for now during the beginning of his recovery. An update followed yesterday (27/03) stating that he was off all sedatvies and is breathing on his own again. He is also showing signs of consciousness with facial expressions and hand gestures.
The family also expressly thanks all the support they are receiving from various quarters.
We wish Jonathon and his family all the courage and strength for the upcoming recovery.
