Aldi launches clothing range for riders

A new range of equestrian clothing by cut-prive supermarket chain Aldi has sparked debate, but the equestrian trade says it is not worried. The Tesco supermarket was the first to branch into riding wear in 2006. Aldi's new Equestrian line is on the market since July 24th. It offers yard boots at £12.99, polo shirts at £8.99 and children’s jodhpurs for £8.99. The intention is to allow both pros and beginners good quality, affordable gear. Yet another step to break down the entry costs for families who want to get involved in the equestrian sport. Meanwhile the fear rises that this new equestrian line will put further pressure on the traditional tack shops. In a reply Aldi states that the equestrian range would appear to be very limited, focused on a small range of basic items. Only what the basics for the regular rider. When riders want more than this they will inevitably turn to specialist tack shops.
