Things the significant others need to know before riding

Some of us know the scenario, some don't. Your partner agrees to accompany you to the horse show, before you know it he tries to sit on the horse's back and later he even wants to start competing against you ... Not even to forget the funny view when they start riding in your clothes, instead of having their own. Here are some rules to keep the significant other going, to motivate them to share the horse passion. 1. Starting at a later age in the equestrian sport there are always going to be riders who are much better than you. Even after you have been riding for years, you’ll still be surrounded by people that are much better than you. But it’s important to remember that the reason these riders are so much better than you is only 50% skill. A major component of their riding prowess is the amount of head trauma they have received . This has dulled their ability to recognize that they are forcing an animal that outweighs them by a factor of 10 to run as fast it can through obstacles designed to throw the rider off head first. 2. Accept that you will meet the ground, probably with your face. The minute you get on a horse and decided you will ride, it's just a matter of time before you will eat dirt. But maybe you'll enjoy the taste? ;) 3. Most horses are very nice and caring, but as a new be they will look like three year old kids, pure evil! It will look like they have no moral compass. It seems like they are only there to embarrass you, they'll flat out torture you... well just accept the horse will test you! 4. You will feel the urge to buy a first horse/pony, well DON'T ! A horse is a big investment in pleasure, but first you need to know for sure you really want this! Just accept there is no such thing as an investment pony... certainly not if you just started! 5. Learning to ride you will probably get many comments, guides from your significant other. How hard it might be, accept them! Accept the fact your partner is more aware of what might go wrong or what might be the best reaction in a certain situation. 6. When you start riding you will receive many compliments. That is nice, but keep your feet on the ground. Now that people just compliment you to motivate you. The best motivation should come from you and your partner, what the others say, well just thank them for it. 7. Wear protection! How stupid it might look.. don't think you can handle an animal 10 times as strong as you, without protection. So, go and live the horse passion...
