Ireland takes the lead at the World University Equestrian Games

Today the World University Equestrian Games kicked-off in Sweden. The bi-annual event sees the Irish Student Riders team in the lead after a brilliant dressage performance. Individually France's Roxana Derrida took the lead with a total score of 75.263% Derrida had to knock-out both Alessandra Reich and Thailand's Siengsaw Lertraranachai. Reich finished with 74.211% as runner-up. Switzerland's Luana Nyirö finished as best on her horse Munsboro Yankee. Her Irish counterpart, Victoria Dixon followed in a fourth place with a total of 72.895%. Victoria's compatriot, Ian Cassells finished fifth as first on his horse Lord of Brilliance. A total of 18 countries are represented at this year's WUEC. After the first round of dressage it is Ireland who takes the lead with a total score of 72.632. Poland follows in a second place, while host-country, Sweden is third. The current top six is completed by the Netherlands, Japan and Belgium.
