Tack rules and descriptions are consolidated into one standalone document rather than spread across multiple general rulebooks. The standalone format allows the FEI to adjust and clarify regulations as new products hit the market.

How the Rules Evolved

The drive for rule modernization gained momentum with the launch of the FEI Tack App in 2023, aimed at offering real-time clarity on approved gear. Recognizing the need for a comprehensive structural overhaul, the FEI hosted a dedicated stakeholder summit in Lausanne in October 2025.

The meeting gathered input from a broad spectrum of the sport—including athletes, national federations, veterinarians, the International Jumping Riders Club (IJRC), the International Jumping Officials Club (IJOC), and the International Grooms Association (IGA).

Following the Lausanne discussions, a formal proposal was submitted and approved at the 2025 FEI General Assembly, giving greenlight to this dedicated equipment standard. Competitors and support teams can now view the full 2027 guidelines online to ensure compliance ahead of the February enforcement date.
