Ingmar De Vos, who has been an IOC Member since 2017, was elected by secret ballot by his peers for a four-year term. He will assume office following the close of the 145th IOC Session on 22 February 2026.

The IOC Executive Board is the organisation’s highest governing body, responsible for overseeing the management of the IOC and implementing decisions taken by the IOC Session. Established in 1921, it comprises the IOC President, four Vice-Presidents and ten members elected by the IOC Session.

“Being elected to the IOC Executive Board means a great deal to me,” said the newly elected Ingmar De Vos. “I am deeply honoured by the outcome and would like to express my sincere thanks to my fellow IOC Members, with whom I have had the privilege of working closely for almost ten years. This new role also carries significant responsibility, at a time when the IOC and the Olympic Movement are undergoing a far-reaching transformation under the ‘Fit for the Future’ agenda, led by IOC President Kirsty Coventry.”

“During my mandate, I will strive to contribute to the continued success of the Olympic Games, the IOC and the Olympic Family. In my role as ASOIF President, I will pay particular attention to the place and role of the International Federations within the Olympic Movement. Together, we must continue to strengthen the popularity, appeal and long-term sustainability of the Olympic Games.”

A distinguished career built on trust

Ingmar De Vos began his professional career as an adviser to the Belgian Senate. He later transitioned to the equestrian world, where he quickly earned widespread respect and recognition. That trust led to key positions within the Royal Belgian Equestrian Federation and, in 2014, to his election as President of the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI).

In 2017, Ingmar De Vos joined the IOC as a Member, where his commitment and engagement were clearly valued. In 2024, he was elected President of ASOIF. With his appointment to the Executive Board less than two years later, he now takes on one of the most influential roles within the Olympic Movement.

A proud moment for Belgium

Jean-Michel Saive, President of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee, sees the election as a significant milestone, both for De Vos and for Belgium: “On behalf of the Belgian Olympic and Interfederal Committee, I warmly congratulate Ingmar on his election to the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee. This represents yet another recognition in an already highly impressive leadership career within the international sports world, in which he has been committed to the Olympic Movement and its values for many years. We are proud that he is following in the footsteps of other Belgian key figures within the Olympic Movement and helping to build on our country’s strong Olympic tradition. We wish him every success in taking on this influential role at the highest level.”

Belgian equestrian sector riding a wave of success

For the Belgian equestrian sector, Ingmar De Vos’s outstanding career represents well-deserved recognition. For decades, he has been regarded as a respected and influential figure within the community. In the past, he even accompanied the Belgian jumping team as chef d’équipe at top international events. His election comes at a time of strong momentum for Belgian equestrian sport, marked by European Championship gold medals in the Olympic disciplines of dressage and jumping, a leading position in equine breeding, and robust economic figures in 2025.

International equestrian community welcomes the appointment

The international equestrian community has also welcomed Ingmar De Vos’s appointment: “The election of Ingmar De Vos to the IOC Executive Board is a significant moment for equestrian sport,” said Quentin Simonet, President of the European Equestrian Federation. “His entry at the highest level of Olympic governance underscores his deep commitment and thorough understanding of the Olympic Movement. At the same time, it confirms the strong position of equestrian sport within an ever-evolving Olympic landscape.”

“With his presence, equestrian sport retains a clear, well-founded and credible voice. The European Equestrian Federation warmly congratulates Ingmar De Vos on this milestone and looks ahead with confidence to his continued engagement. From his broad remit, he can play a meaningful role, including inspiring young people, helping to shape a future-oriented Olympic Games, and strengthening the sustainable and strategic place of equestrian sport within the Olympic Movement.”

Ambitions

Ingmar De Vos has clear ambitions for his role on the IOC Executive Board: “During my mandate, I will strive to contribute to reforms of the Olympic Programme that will ensure the success of future editions of the Olympic Games.

As ASOIF President, I have a responsibility to ensure that the voice of the International Federations is heard within the IOC and the Olympic Movement. Together, we must continue to strengthen the popularity, appeal and long-term sustainability of the Olympic Games.”

Ingmar De Vos is currently attending the 25th Olympic Winter Games, taking place from 6 to 22 February in the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina. He will officially assume his role on the IOC Executive Board on 22 February 2026.
