Landgestüt Westfalen unexpectedly had to say goodbye to Balzaci (Balou du Rouet x Ex Libris). Complications during surgery caused cardiac arrest and, despite all the efforts of the veterinary team, the stallion did not survive. Balzaci had been enjoying his sporting retirement since the end of 2019. He was 22 years old.
Balzaci was an internationally renowned horse. Under his sporting name Horsgym's Balzaci, the son of Balou du Rouet celebrated 23 international victories and a total of 177 wins and placings in the advanced class together with his rider Felix Haßmann. Groundbreaking achievements such as the victory in the Global Champions Tour in Monte Carlo in 2018, the bronze medal in the Riders Tour and the victory in the Grand Prix of Munich in 2017 are among the highlights of this top duo's career.
His passing came unexpectedly. During an operation, complications arose, and Balzaci suffered a fatal cardiac arrest. A great loss, not only for the sport but especially for the people who had known him closely for many years. The Rassmann family responded with deep sorrow to the death of their beloved stallion: “We want to highlight your sweet, uncomplicated, and approachable personality.”
