Olivier Philippaerts has announced that his beloved horse, H&M Legend of Love, is retiring from the sport. In an emotional post on social media, Philippaerts shared his gratitude and memories of their journey together over the past decade. In 2015, the already 18-year-old mare won the Grand Prix of Jumping Mechelen under Olivier, and with his farewell in once again this class, it has come full circle for the Landzauber son.
Legend has built an impressive career under Philippaerts, competing in prestigious competitions worldwide. One of their most memorable victories was in 2015 at Jumping Mechelen, where they won the Grand Prix.
In recent years, the duo continued to achieve impressive results. In 2021, they won the 1.45m class at the Azelhof CSI in Lier, highlighting their continued form and dedication to the sport.
Philippaerts expressed his thanks to everyone involved in Legend's career and emphasized the horse's unique and incredible character. He described himself as “extremely fortunate” to be part of Legend's journey.
H&M Legend of Love's farewell will take place during the Grand Prix Sport Vlaanderen at Jumping Mechelen, scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024. Philippaerts hopes many will be in attendance to cheer Legend on one last time and pay tribute to this exceptional horse who has had a lasting impact on the sport of show jumping.
"Legend,
For the last 10 years you were the horse that meant everything to me.
We travelled around the world, competed in the biggest competitions, against the best of the best.
We proved that you were one of the best horses from your generation. You have a unique but incredible character.
I feel extremely lucky to have been a part of your journey.
There are so many people that were a part of Legend’s career, I send a big thank you to everybody who has been involved!
Mechelen,
In 2015 you won your first GP at Jumping Mechelen. This Sunday, Grand Prix sport vlaanderen will be your last competition. I hope everybody will be there to cheer you on just one last time.
Thank you Legend,
you are truly one of a kind. ❤️"
